“Growing up as a mixed-race kid, there weren’t a lot of books out there that I could see myself in. I’ve always felt that I never fully fit in. I had the opportunity to illustrate a book that highlights the best parts of that feeling of the in-between and is a love letter to the generations of kids who don’t fit in just one box.”

Crystal is a biracial Filipino-American artist based in Portland, Oregon. In her artwork, she draws inspiration from nature, everyday life, and her passion for bold mid-century design. She enjoys exploring the use of shape, color, and texture, while also using her experience in animation to add rhythm in her illustration work.
